Respect Your Mother (Earth)
"The war against coal may be over, if EPA chief Scott Pruitt is to be believed, and the Trump administration may be trying to repeal the Obama-era Clean Power Plan. But according to a new report from the International Energy Agency (IEA), renewable energy sources accounted for almost two-thirds of the net increase in power capacity around the world in 2016." See how condos and co-ops in New York City have been part of that increase!
Sharing is Caring (If You Do It Right)!
"Amenities are a significant benefit of Condo life ... In areas with neighboring Condo Associations, you might consider Sharing Condo Association amenities. Your neighbor gets access to your pool, you get access to their tennis court. Alternatively, they might just pay you for access to your pool. While this is great in theory, it can create complications." Here are some things to consider when sharing amenities!
Be the Best (Board) You Can Be
"Despite the best of intentions, many times an HOA board actually becomes the downfall of their association. How does this happen? Well, there are a lot of different ways for things to go awry, but here are 4 clues that the HOA board might actually be causing more problems rather than solving them." Make sure you're not doing more harm than good to your HOA!
Knowing Your (Manager's) Worth
"What should we pay our onsite manager? It seems a simple enough question, right? Uh, not right. In fact the answer - or rather, processing the answer - becomes complicated because each association has, over the years, developed a “metric" on which they base their expectations for the remuneration of their onsite general manager and more importantly, their expectations on what to remunerate a new General Manager." Read on to see how Julie Adamen suggests measuring this salary.
Stay Safe (Online)!
"There are certain things that are designed to keep you safe. Locks on your doors and windows, the key to your car, and on your computer: your antivirus program ... Antivirus programs are meant to protect you, but, like the Trojan horse, this one brings with it a little something extra that may not feel so safe. So let’s talk about the recent news that broke regarding the Israeli, Russian, and US counterintelligence allegations, and what that means for you as a potential Kaspersky consumer." Check out some advice someone from the cybersecurity world has to offer about the latest hacking scandal.
