CAM Mash Up: This Week (Feb 4 - 10)

Posted by Meigan Montoya on February 11, 2019

Here's a quick rundown of all of the happenings in the CAM industry in this week's CAM Mashup!

It All Starts Here

No two communities are the same, but every community has at least one thing in common: the Board is the foundation of the community. More than that, it's how the community association industry truly thrives. So often, homeowners see the impact the board has on their community or on their community managers, and they want to get involved. That's almost always the start of every seasoned industry professional's story--from our own Jeff Hardy, to Trever Midgley of HOA Strategies, everything starts with somehow getting involved with the community Board of Directors.

But there's more to being on the board than just living in the community. A good board member is a community advocate, a financial representative, and an authority on how to best maintain the curb appeal and property value, just to name a few. Sometimes, that's an easy task list. It means paying attention in meetings, and responding to concerns in a timely fashion. And other times, it means raising dues, and even if that raise is necessary and understandable, it will still ruffle feathers and sour the homeowners moods. A board member is the firm but fair figure in every common interest development that ensures community success, even if the community doesn't always see it that way.
