Here's a quick rundown of all of the happenings in the CAM industry in this week's CAM Mashup!
Self-management has been the talk of the industry lately, but it's important to note that these self-management tips and tricks apply to more than just self-governed associations. You don't have to be self-managed or even considering self-governance for your community to see the value in being self-sufficient. Your management team is there to support your community, but your community should be able to support itself if and when the need arises.
Having the industry financial knowledge, an understanding of the tools your community can benefit from, and a willingness to run the show even if that never becomes a necessity is an important part of all business management--you need to be able to say, 'I have a trusted management team for my community, but if that falls apart tomorrow, our board of directors will be able to stay afloat until a new solution is implemented."
Understanding where to relinquish some of the reigns is also an important step in management. According to Dr. Gary Soloman at the College of Southern Nevada, "HOA Syndrome" is a real illness! Much like manager burnout, it comes with a slew of symptoms and can have a big impact on your day to day life. Be ready to take on the needs of the community, and be just as ready to delegate for your own health and safety.
