This week has been a roller coaster! The government shutdown, the shutdown was lifted, year-end was still in full swing--it's a lot! But don't worry, we've got all of the latest in one place. Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself

"You serve on your homeowners’ association’s board of directors. You work hard, preparing for and attending meetings and listening to the homeowners that elected you.  And you do all this on your own time.

Despite your best efforts, your HOA Board may be putting itself in legal jeopardy. Specifically, do you and your board know and understand what is required for annual disclosures?"

Don't be That Guy (or Girl)

"Somewhere between teasing and assault lies the unpleasant but headline-grabbing realm of sexual harassment. Though complicated by the breadth of subtleties—or lack thereof—in personal interactions, changes in societal norms, and personal differences, harassing or discriminating against a person because of that person’s sex was banned by the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Act applies to all employers with more than 15 employees, but state laws will apply to smaller entities and also other types of harassment, so there is not a permissible employment setting for inappropriate behavior."

We're at a turning point in our society where individuals finally feel able to successfully address behavior they aren't comfortable with in the workplace, so how do you go about preventing it from happening in the first place? 

(Please Don't) Shut It Down! 

"The big news this week was the gridlock in the Senate leading to a government shutdown. For now the shutdown has officially been lifted and the vote pushed for another three weeks until Feb. 8, 2018 but that means that come Feb. 8, we could enter another shutdown if a budget still isn't agreed upon.

Regardless of which side of the aisle you fall on, your management company needs to be able to keep up business as usual. How can a future government shutdown affect your management company?"
