License to Thrive
No matter how experienced of a community association manager you may be, getting licensed is the best way to prove your knowledge to the world. Here's a great guide on how to get licensed as a community association manager.
HOA Goals for 2015
Hopefully you have set your own personal goals for 2015 by now but what about goals for your HOA? Have you drawn up a game plan and set clearly defined and measurable goals for your community? Well, what are you waiting for?
How Do Your Amenities Rank?
What amenities does your association offer? Are they relevant to the needs/wants of the majority of the population within your HOA? What percentage of your community actually take advantage of them? It may be time to re-evaluate what amenities you are spending your dollars on and maybe consider reallocating them into more fitting amenities for your HOA.
Finding Your Zen
"You are sitting in another stupefying meeting. The Board is way off the agenda, wandering far and wide amidst the weeds. You have tried, to no avail, to bring them back to the matters at hand, but they are cowboys out on their own trail ride, a whompin' and a whompin', and all you can do is listen, take some notes and try not to scream..." Julie Adaman gives some great advice on how to keep your cool.
As much as I would love to deny it, I can’t help but enjoy hearing about a juicy scandal. Unfortunately, I think this is true for most people. That is why, for your guilty pleasure, we here at TOPS bring you, “HOA's in the Media: Scandals Affecting Community Associations in 2014.”
Think you’ve got the security game down pat? “A pleasant neighborhood association provides excellent security to the residents. If your neighborhood or condo isn’t as secure as you’d like, check out these five security mistakes and ensure they aren’t being made.”
“Why shouldn't boards defer maintenance? If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? Who can blame boards for not spending money where it's not imperative for them to do so?!” Well as well all know, deterring maintenance can cause more pricey problems down the road. The key ones to keep an eye on? Plumbing, Roofing and Boilers. You’re welcome.
