Time Savers

“You may find yourself asking, "How do other managers handle all this and still get a little sleep every night?" The answer is both simple and complicated. Sadly there is no magic portal that gives you extra time every day. (Unless you know of a magic time portal, in which case, please share with the rest of us!) What we do have, is a series of time saving tips and efficiency tricks that add up to real time you can use every day. Let's dig in.

Sleeping with the Enemy

As a manager, of course you are expected to be on call in case of an emergency. But your definition of an emergency and others could be of drastic varying degrees. Tanoa Poirier hit the nail on the head with the article explaining why sleeping with your cell phone is equivalent to sleeping with the enemy.

Rise of the Bots

I often wonder what daily life will look like in 20-30 years. Unrecognizable, I assume. At the rate in which technology is progressing, I’d imagine many common occupations will be taken over by robots in the near future. We are already seeing it happening! But what's the next profession to be affected? Accountants? It is certainly possible.

Work/Life Balance

This may dispute everything we ever believed when it comes to creating the perfect work/life balance. “The researchers found that people with looser boundaries between home and work did experience more cognitive role transitions, but that they were also less depleted by them. Moreover, when people tried to keep work and home life separate, their cognitive role transitions were more likely to take more effort and thus hurt their performance.

Got Meddlers?

Do you have 'helpful' community members meddling with your association's contractors? When vendors are working in your community, the meddler wants to direct the work or at least give an opinion about what’s being done. It's awkward for your contractors and frustrating for you. Here are a few tips to curb this Meddler behavior.

Insuring Amenities

“Like beauty, what constitutes an 'amenity'—particularly a 'luxury' amenity—may well be in the eye of the beholder. Young families may want indoor and outdoor play equipment, while professionals may appreciate a well-appointed gym, and seniors might gravitate towards card rooms and social halls. Making sure your building or association has enough of the right kind of insurance coverage for its amenities is a crucial part of your board/management team's job”
